Dear ECMO family members,

I am privileged and honoured to take over as the President of the ECMO Society of India. I thank you all for having trust on me, especially Dr. Suneel Pooboni, Dr. Venkat Goyal and Dr. Pranay Oza. It's my pleasure to address you as President of the ECMO Society of India. Over the years, our society has grown into a vibrant community of clinicians, surgeons, intensivists, perfusionists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing ECMO patient's care across the country.

ECMO has evolved from a rescue therapy to an integral component of advanced critical care, offering hope to patients with severe cardiac and respiratory failure when all other conventional modalities fails. The remarkable progress achieved in this field is the proof to the commitment, collaboration and relentless pursuit of excellence demonstrated by our members.

ESOI has grown to this level because of the fellowship and certificate courses, various awareness programs/CMEs conducted all over India by respective state representatives of ESOI and by independent units. For this we are always thankful to the tireless and sincere effort of Dr. Pranay Oza, Dr. Venkat Goyal, Dr. Suneel Pooboni, Dr. Ramanathan and other faculty members, who took time from their hectic schedule to educate our delegates. We should learn and follow these skills from them for better training of our future ECMO family members. I was forced to go to London to get trained myself on ECMO in 2007. But this situation is not there now. After 2010 when ESOI was formed, the situation is completely reversed. Now a days we are seeing delegates from abroad coming to India to get trained from our ESOI courses which are ELSO endorsed. I would like mention an important point here. Yesterday's delegates are today's faculties of our ESOI courses. This fact is the testament of the success of our ESOI courses. We also make sincere effort to educate our ECMO society members regarding the advancements happening in ECMO patient's care not only in India but also all around the world. We also have a vibrant what's app group through which we share our experience and educate the community.

Our mission remains focused on promoting education, research, innovation, and experience/evidence-based clinical practice. Through scientific meetings, workshops, training programs, and multi-centre collaborations, we aim to strengthen ECMO services and improve patient outcomes throughout India.

As we move forward, it is essential that we continue to nurture the culture of teamwork, learning, quality improvement and last but not the least staying together as family members of ESOI rather than just part of the ESOI. The challenges of critical care medicine demand not only technical expertise but also compassion, resilience and a shared commitment to patient-centered care.

I extend my sincere gratitude to all members, partners, and supporters of the ECMO Society of India for their invaluable contributions. Together, we will continue to expand knowledge, build capacity, and shape the future of ECMO practice in our nation.

There is scope to improve our ECMO patient's care especially in primary/secondary health care (Districts & Villages), managing long term ECMO patients (especially infection and frailty) and financial aspects, to name few. We are working to improve them.

If you have any suggestion to improve our ESOI society which can improve our ECMO patient's care, please feel free to contact us. Together we will take the ESOI to next level.

I look forward to your continued participation and support as we work collectively toward excellence in ECMO care.

With warm regards,
Dr. K. Madhan Kumar
President,
ECMO Society of India.
